i bought a running 743 that needs some tlc the first thing is the bucket bottom is rusted through in one or two spots and needs repair. I can weld and fabricate a new bottom, is there a downside to repairing it? I see new ones on e-bay for 400. plus shipping just trying to save wherever possible mark

I see no reason why you can't weld it. If you have the gear, you won't lose much by trying the repair if it was to fail later.

I had a rusted out one as well. I cut out the bad panels and welded in some new 1/8 plate - works/looks good as new...

Bought 1/4" plate for bottom of my 54" bucket last night. $90 cut, will work on soon.
