Newb here. Just trying to see if anyone has a GOOD break down diagram for the hydraulic control valve on a 642B. I know nothing about working on this stuff. My dad bought this skid steer a couple years ago and the hydraulics are gradually leaking more and more from the control valve area(to the point now he looses too much to justify using it). He has taken it to his cousin that is a pretty good shade tree mechanic. He needs a good diagram to take the valve control apart and rebuild it. I've looked online but haven't really found anything useful I can print off. I got a copy of the manual but nothing seems to break down the parts to know how to take apart and put back together. Neither of these guys are big on computers so I'm trying my best to find something I can print and take to them. Anyone here have one I could print? OR is this control valve the same/very similar to another model that does have a good diagram I can print? The serial number begins with 5040 I do believe but would have to verify that again.

He would also like to change the ring gear if he can find the right one but said it's not 'vital' yet. Just figured while they had things apart they'd go ahead and do that. It currently has a couple teeth missing so you just have to bump the key to get to the sweet spots to catch lol

Again, I don't really know enough about this stuff but they do so I'll take any info/advice/help straight to them. Much appreciated!

Justin,

Do you have the "service manual"? If not. Here it is. There is a pretty good diagram of the hose routing as well as valve rebuild instructions (chapter 2). The valve assembly rebuild is pretty straightforward, but getting it out is the trick. I pulled the motor out, which gave me the room I needed to get to it as well as being able to remove all the hoses. Make sure you label every hose and take pictures. I would also recommend a video as insurance.

Let me know what you need, as I just did this 6 months ago on my 642...

I think I only found the operator's manual for him. That looks MUCH better! I'm sure my dad's uncle can follow along with that. And yes, he is going to pull the motor as well, that's why dad thought about pulling the ring gear at the same time but if he can't figure something out a little cheaper, he's just going to live with it. lol I appreciate the tips as well and will pass those along to make sure he knows where everything goes when it gets put back together. Thank you VERY MUCH! I really do appreciate it! This is awesome!

642Dan,

Above in this post is the service manual. If you can't see it, send me a message and i will send it to you. It has a good color diagram of the hoses. Also, attached below is my hand drawing i used when i replace all the soft lines under the cab. Note that "up" in the drawing is "up" on the motors as well as the blocks. Best of luck....

When I rebuilt my 743 there was a hydraulic hose that ran under the hydraulic control valve that I couldn't see until I removed the valve from the bobcat. I had the motor out and decided to remove and rebuild. It had a big hole in it. The only way to replace hose was with valve removed. So glad I did it or I would have had a big leak. It was a pain to remove with the motor out. Good luck and enjoying working on your bobcat.
