About to buy this for about 4300. but it has me scared. Anyone know what would cause this wheel to squat out under a load ? Oh and it also creeps when sitting idling. Will that be a tough fix? Thank you for any advice ! This is my first post and I always loved Bobcats so I am excited to get one but don't want to get over my head.

i don't know about the left wheel but the creeping is just an adjustment. my 643 does it a little too but i just put the brake on and its alright. i take it you're from owego? my mothers family is from elmira, i drive through your town yearly haha.

I'm not sure exactly what you are talking about. Jack it up and see what it loose. Maybe loose lung nuts. B series, so should be two piece axle, I have seen the hub come loose. Or the axle bearings are shot. As for the creep, those aways creep. It can be adjusted, but often is worn to the point it will creep again.

Not all b's are two piece axles. Depends if it is a late 80's or early 90's. If it is the wheel bearings, and they are that bad. Make sure the axle tube is not damaged. Also to change the bearings and seal you will have to pull the mottor and the hydro. Parts are about $200. You might do it without pulling the motor, but not sure. This is a sizable job. If you cant do it yourself i would consider passing for that price. I just changed mine on a 642b and i would say if you cant come out ahead on this deal not worth the work. Im sure it needs some other things fixed. I would say $ 3000. 00 or so is plenty to pay for the machine. Fixed up it would only be worth about $6000 TOPS. JUST MY THOUGHTS ON THAT. Aaron

Thx for all the quick replies- 1st yes I am from Owego NY. :) And I guess the creep I can live with if the brakes work...lol . I am not sure what the issue is as the guy just told me that is what it does (the lt ft wheel) but I am a Sr. Mechanic at a powerplant and if it doesn't seem too bad I am willing to risk it. I am glad no one is "saying run like hell" . :) But do you think this is too much money with a combo price of the 642B and a size matching backhoe for 6200.? Sure do appreciate your help ! Thx a ton.

Price seems a touch high. Backhoe 2500./skidsteer $3300. 5000 or so seems like a safe number without seeing the stuff. The mitsubishi engine parts are getting hard to find. They are known to have bad carbs. These are not cheap. Just give yourself some room for repairing it right. Tires are also expensive.. I offer 5000 and maybe settle for 5500. Just check it out the best you can. Really look the engine over. You cannot find these used. It would be a rebuild or a diesel conversion. If it runs good and has good tires and all it needs is a paint job and fixed up and bearings then $6200 would probably be ok.

Well it has lousy tires, the engine seemed to run well. I ran the bucket up and down and rolled it and that all seemed well ...just kind of loose is all at the bucket pins. He did have this funky switch to engage the starter AFTER you turn the key on. Then you have to turn it back off after it starts...looks like it was quick fix rather than a good one. btw I did offer 5500 but that was a no deal. He is somehow convinced it is worth 5500 w/o the hoe . I took it, it will be here tomorrow, wish me luck ...Thx again and I am sure I will be asking for everyones expert opinions as I restore this "jewel".

Wow Tom that was a smoking deal. Mine isn't all rusty that I can tell from when I checked it out. I think I ovepaid to the tune of 500-1000 maybe for what they are going for around here but bit the bullit to get the combo of a skidsteer/hoe. Oh the hoe doesn't have the 2" ball mounts that mount on the skidsteer. Going to have to make or buy those I guess.

I saw some of those mounts on ebay the other day. I think 50 bucks. Good luck. You cant hit a home run every time. Time will tell. Let us know what all you find wrong with unit. May be a good deal in the end. Aaron

Thx I'll have to try to track them down on ebay. I will list the issue with the left front wheel as soon as I figure it out, hopefully this weekend.

look at the photos in the media section , most older backhoe mounts can be made at home if you have time and equipment.

I just did my 642b axle bearings. So I can give you all the part #s and help if needed. I also Have a micro fiche for part numbers. Just let me know what you need. I am in the process of putting my machine back together. I have removed every piece of it. Aaron

Thx Aaron, I'll know who to look for to get that. I just found a website that allowed me to download the manual for my 642B for only 9.99 ! I thought that was awesome. I've already gone through half the 221 pages. No part numbers but it lists special tools and looks like the original Bobcat service manual So after downloading it I loaded it onto a disc and have it even if my puter crashes. Heck, I almost bought one on ebay for 109.00 but it was sold already.

Hey MIKE FROM CNY, for some reason I can't reply to your post so I will do it here. I am interested in the mounts for 50 bucks if you can do that but anything more I would just build them as there isn't much to those and I stand by a Miller 350 synchromax Tig/Stick, a Miller 212 Mig machine and a Thermal Dynamics Plasma Cutter that can sever 1.5" steel all day so building them is not a big deal but for a fifty I may drink a beer instead...let me know THX !
