I have a 642b that the left side drive doesnt work well. It howls badly and pushes back on the stick. It hardly will move at all with the left stick. The other drive works well and so does the lift/tilt. I tried swapping the drive motors from side to side and the problem stayed with the left side so it isn't the motor itself. Mine does not seem to have a bronze filter to replace. Anyone have any ideas what is wrong? Any help is appreciated.

I'll be following this post, as I have an older 863 with very similar issues. I tested out another 863 at an auction last week and it was doing the same thing as well. I'm thinking this is a common issue ? Local dealership told me it would cost a $1000 at least to 'fix', though would not elude to what the cause might be. It is definitely NOT a linkage setting issue...

Soon I had a similar problem with a few different symptoms. The left hand lever knocked on my hand, and the whole machine vibrated. I noticed a small leak from the shaft of the hydrostatic pump to its belt pulley. The pump was disassembled, and there was a bad shaft bearing, a shaft seal and a bad snap ring. . Because the left hand lever control of the pintle lever of swash plate that is close to the belt drive . and when shat has play form bad bearing it is posiible to make some bumps this is probably the problem .. I'm not sure.

If you tried swapping motors, it has to be in the pump. You may need to pull your pump down and inspect the rotating groups and the relief valves to be sure there is no wear on the wear plates in the pump and that the springs are good on the relief valves.
Sadly, the 843 does not use replaceable wear plates, they need to be ground and hardened if there is wear on them. Loader parts source can do this if it is indeed worn.
