My 642 was running fine. Then would only run with the choke out. Now it does not start at all. It turns over and will start with starter fluid, but will not run on its own. I have replaced the fuel pickup line in the tank, and the vent is clear. The filter is new, and the solinoid is opening. Pulled the outflow line off the fuel pump and it is working. So It looks like i have to pull the carb and clean it huh? I have the Ford motor, Do you need to pull the manifold off to get the carb off? or pull the entire engine? How the heck that manifold come off? Is it even the carb thats is the problem?

crank it over with the choke out and then check the spark plugs to see if they are wet with gas. If not tap the bowl of the carb in case the float is sticking. If they are wet you may have ignition problems rather than gas. If you take the carb apart really check out the float and needle valve for a little rust or rough spots. Does yours have the anti diesel solenoid on it?

Re thinking jerry is right float valve in the bowel stuck
Yea that may be it. Im sure the carb needs to be rebuilt. just looks like a pain to take out. Looks like i might be able to get the bowl off. When it started running rough and died i was packing down the dirt on a small steep incline. maybe it did stick. Does the float bowl have a drain plug on the botttom of it?. As far as a solinoid valve, you mean on the carb itself? im not sure. I cant shrink myself down enought to get in there.

Can not see it from here but will have a nut in the center of the bowel shut the fuel off then take the bowel off slide the pin out to the side drop the float then work the valve up and down clean the seat open the shut off and rinse and the bowel may need a new gasket put it back good to go

pickup tube in fuel tank if you were on an incline..

First check to see if the choke cable is slipping. Mine old 642 had the same issue. Would only run well with the choke pulled out some, especially in colder weather. After figuring the cable was slipping, I couldnt believe how much better the machine ran and how much easier it started.

The 632 had a solenoid on the bowl of the carb, if you have a wire going to the engine side of the carb that is it. If the choke cable doesnt travel right that will make a big difference in starting, take the air cleaner tube off so you can feel the butterfly while adjusting the cable. Carbureutor is fairly easy to take off and clean. when you have it apart take some really fine wet or dry emery paper and lightly polish the sides of the bowl inlet needle valve. It doesnt take much sometime to make them stick. I took the carb off the 632 a dozen times , changed the fuel pump and all the lines for a similar problem that turned out to be the points in the distributor. good luck.

Ethanol fuel and inactivity make for hard to find gremlins w/ these motors. If the battery isn't 100% the anti-dieseling solenoid on the carb fuel intake may not have enough juice to move the needle. Rap it w/ a wood stick w/ ignition ON to hopefully dislodge it. ***** If you suspect weak spark plan to invest in a PerTronics points eliminator. ***** http://pertronix.shptron.com/c/electronic-ignition_ignitor?pp=8&sort_selection=name&pg=24***** It goes all the way back to the Starting Circuit. Plan to use 2 ga. battery cables as the starter must turn the engine, pump and cooling fan and still have juice to supply 12 v, not 8-9v, to the above solenoid. Fresh brushes, turn the end bell over, wash out all the copper makes for a happy starter. Starter location makes it trap water so load up the notch between the housing and the solenoid w/ silicone.****** As stated the carb is easy to remove w/o taking anything else apart. I can take mine off in the dark about as well as in daylight.****** When you put a kit in the carb set the float about 1/16" lower than specified. I've tried most combinations...........1/16 low is the best. 29 years of trying.***** If you're like me and don't log a lot of annual hours find a source for ethanol free fuel and a LOT of your problems will be gone.***** -Dick *****=new paragraph

Loader lives again. It was pretty easy to pull the carb and clean it. It was full of sediment and crap in the bowl. Looks like I could of had a short in the solenoid on the carb. I rigged it to work till I find a new one. Started right up and runs great, but... NOW another problem. With it dieing. I will stat another tread topic. Thanks for all the help.
