I rebuilt the entire right drive sytem about 1 year ago. Since then I have had a problem with the rear clutch shaft( for forward drive) rotating over time until the clutch adjustment needs adjusted. this takes place over about a 3-4 month span, not right away, and depending on use. I can adjust the nut all is fine, but then I also need to re-rotate the shaft so the actuating threads and nut match up again. Has anyone else encountered this? Scott

Thanks for the response, according to my service manual, it should be at 225ft-lbs. which is a more reliable figure than I got from my local dealer(Torque the dog out of it). the lead washer, does it go on the inside of the tank or outside, under the seat? It is unclear in my manual as well as the parts explosion my dealer gave me. Scott

It goes on the outside (under seat) and there will be a internal star washer over the lead washer…….hand tighten……make final adjustments, then follow manual instructions to do final torque. I have never had a shaft spin on me following that procedure. I've seen them done with a brass washer….silicone on both sides of the brass washer, then the star washer and it seemed to hold up fine. I even did one with the more modern (thread) hydraulic washer (metal w/rubber inside) that worked just fine. That said I recommend the original setup.
