I borrowed my in laws 240 and need help! I ran it for about 10 minutes and I could smell some oil burning. At that same point it seemed to be a at sluggish. At idle it was perfect. I parked it and checked the oil. It was nearly out - also a little smoke came from the oil cap after I opened it. So I went the next morning, bought some oil. Put it in and when I tried to start it I got a click. Several attempts no luck. Charged and checked battery and connections and all ok. I pulled out the starter and it was not spinning. It would engage but not spin. Bought new starter and now it's engages and seems strong, but the engine won't turn over. The belts tug a little so I know the starter is trying. I can't imagine I seized the engine, any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Get a socket and breaker bar. Use bolt in center of balancer and try turning motor either direction. Oil cap is 7 quarts. Probally siezed it up.

Thanks, I was able to get a wrench on it with no bar. I ended up loosening the bolt so u went the other way- not much leverage in there. I'm going to get a different wrench so I can get a bar on it. Will it take some good force to move it? I want to make sure I don't make anything worse! Thank you, Jeremia

If you were able to loosen that bolt then it is locked up. That bolt should have been tightened to around 200 to 240 ft pounds.

Oh boy I'm in trouble! Thanks for your help. I'm assuming if it is frozen, it's a new engine situation?
I'd start by removing the glow plugs then seeing if the engine will turn over by hand or with the starter. If not, you need to pull it and find out what locked up.
Sorry to say it, but it really doesn't sound good....
