I have a 1993 Bobcat 753 that has started randomly shutting itself down. It usually happens within 20–30 seconds of starting, but not always. Sometimes it can idle for a full minute. However, if you touch the throttle at all, it shuts itself down.
Occasionally, it will also bounce the fuel shutoff solenoid open and closed. It'll close, then start to die, and open just in time to keep running—but after the second or third time, it doesn't catch fast enough and stalls.
Sometimes, when I turn the key, it will click the solenoid on, then immediately off, so when I crank the Bobcat, it's not getting any fuel and won't start. If I turn the key off and try again, it will usually start. So in some cases, the solenoid isn't getting any power at all.
The fuel shutoff solenoid itself tests fine, but the voltage going to it is hit or miss. I'm not sure if the Bobcat is shutting itself down due to a different issue it thinks it has, or if it's a wiring issue somewhere.
I've tried tracing the problem back and end up at the fuel shutdown relay. Pin 85 has 3–6 volts, and it varies. I don't know if that's the cause of the issue or not.
Unfortunately, I can't see if there's an error code because my BOSS system isn't functioning properly and displays garbled text. If I force the fuel solenoid open, the Bobcat runs fine.
