1987 Bobcat 742 Hydraulic Fluid

I am sure this is a common question. I blew a hydraulic line in my bobcat 742 and had to fill the hydraulic tank. I went to a local shop and they said universal hydraulic fluid should work fine. I put it in a now it foamed in the tank. Does this just have to settle, or should I use something else. I read somewhere 15-40 engine oil works because it is thicker. Any help would be great. I can go to my bobcat dealer, but I would rather not make the drive there if I can find something local.

They run standard engine oil. It needs to be thicker to lubricate the pumps and motors. 15W40, 20W50 etc.
The foam should settle out, if you lost enough fluid to empty the tank or to get a good amount of air in the system, just run it for a few minutes, driving around lift and tilt then shut down over night. Repeat for a few days, this will allow the air to escape faster.

The foam settled and the machine is working good now. Should I drain the fluid and add engine oil instead or just run it as it is and next time if there is one take care of it? Thanks for the responce. Andrew

Dump the fluid , oil cheap pumps are not.
