Air coming out of hydraulic vent hole in filler cap

Is it normal for air to escape the vent for 5-7 seconds on the hydraulic cap? It just started happening when the weather got colder. The arm and tilt are also stuttery when cold. I have only had this since June so I don't know if this is normal for colder weather or if something is going on. The Hydro oil was drained and refilled this summer, about work 20 hrs ago.

yes it does breathe, depending on the pressure valve in the cap that lets the air in and out at a certain rate, as the cylinder fill with oil air is let into the tank when fluid is pushed out of cylinders and returns to tank air is pushed out. you might want to look at that cap to make sure it is not restricted beyond factory specs.I would think 5-7 seconds is to much but I could be wrong.

HI,
Hey thanks for the reply. Not sure why I did not notice a reply before this. I'll have to check my notifications.
Anyway. Its still doing it but much less now. I topped up the hydraulic oil and it helped a lot. Still learning a lot with this being my first piece of hydraulic equipment.

Stuttering hydraulics on the 1835Bs means the hydraulic oil level is low. How is the reservoir vented on your machine? The 1835s used a cap with a one way valve in it that was also a manual relief. It maintains some air pressure in the reservoir. So there is no sound of air going in or out of the reservoir during cylinder cycling.

It has a vented cap. No manual release. Tank has no pressure, not even a tiny bit. At least mine doesn't. No idea if it's the original cap or if it is supposed to retain some pressure. Perhaps I do need a new cap. Seems like mine would allow water vaper in with the air and cause issues. I think I'm going to try and find a replacement cap. Thanks for the tip. I never even thought the cap could be the issue.

I ordered a new one to see how it works. I checked mine and you can see right through the hole from one side to the other. Actually, put my mouth to it and it passed air both ways with no restriction at all. Not sure it's supposed to work that way or not, but a new one is cheap insurance.
