873 Left Side Only Engages When Joystick is Maxed Out

Ok, so I know this is an old post but hopefully someone can help me. I have an early model 873 with the single speed drive motors. A couple years ago one side started not responding to lever movement and when it did it hit hard and I could kill the engine if I wanted, so I was pretty certain my...

    873 R.H. drive motor hesitation

VR Trooper, Actually, believe it or not I am still running the loader that way. Along with my regular job, I am in the process of building a new house and hardly have enough time to sleep. But I have noticed a strange phenomenon, if you want to call it that, if I engage the right lever before...

    white smoke coming

Were you losing any coolant? If you weren't then I would agree with Tazza but if you were loosing coolant I would suspect cracked head or defective head gasket. Just something about the white smoke makes me think coolant. Also, were you using straight water as a coolant or antifreeze? If...

    873 BICS problems

I have a 97 873 with BICS. Since I have owned this, about 8 years, very infrequently the drives and hydraulics would lock up and the corresponding lights would be off. Recently it has been happening more often and yesterday it started happening about every 15 to 30 seconds. All I have to do is...

    smoking 873

Update: Since renting the timing tools was going to cost me $200 I thought I would call another local Bobcat dealer in Lincoln, Nebraska to see what they would charge to install the timing belt. I figured if they would do it for $200 or less I would just let them do it after I put the head back...

    smoking 873

Pig farmer, check your "873 smokin" post, I put some ideas on there. I would highly suspect the head gskt.

    873 smokin

Again I would suspect head gasket. See my last post and you can follow what I did. Most likely oil won't feed back into exhaust from the exhaust side side of turbo and if it is coming from intake side it would affect all cylinders.

    smoking 873

Update. I called the local bobcat dealer, $270 for the timing belt kit and head gasket. Called the people from the link Old Machinist gave me and their cost is $160, plus they will rent the tools for 10 days for $200. I know the engine is in time, and I made timing marks on the camshaft gear and...

    873 smokin

I have a post under skidsteers called smoking 873 and when I seen your heading I thought it was mine but anyway I have the same exact problem. You can go to my post under skidsteers and follow my progress but I would lean towards a blown head gasket. Pull the glow plugs out, if it is a turbo...

    smoking 873

O.K. here's the verdict. Blown head gasket. I had my wife crank it over with the glow plugs out to see if any oil would blow out, none did. So I put the glow plugs back in but I did notice a little different color on the one in #3 hole so I switched 3 and 4. Then with the turbo hoses off and the...

    smoking 873

Rich M-37 I'm kind of agreeing with you, I don't think it's my belt either now, but once I get this thing figured out I am going to replace as a preventative measure. Last night I took off turbo inlet from aircleaner and it had oil residue in it and there was oil laying at the bottom of the...

    smoking 873

I have an 873 with approximately 1600 original hours and yesterday when I took it out of the (heated) shop to push snow it was smoking fairly badly. It didn't notice it until I got out to close the door and noticed all the smoke in the shop and also coming out of the exhaust. I quickly turned it...

    873 R.H. drive motor hesitation

I haven't removed all the bolts but probably about 8 and they are all the same size (length, diameter, head size and hex size 10mm). I ordered a Service Manual on the internet today from Yesterdays Tractor website for $74, it's supposed to be a factory manual. At this point I think I will wait...

    Bobcat 873 Bucket Level Switch

If I'm not mistaken, I believe when the switch is off and you raise the arms, your buckets remains curled up tight to the arms all the way up. When you turn on the switch and raise the arms, the bucket will move to keep the bucket angle the same all the way up. In other words, if your bucket is...

    873 R.H. drive motor hesitation

I've finally come to the conclusion that I'm just going to buy my own service manual. The pictures of the procedures in the photocopies I mentioned above were almost impossible make out. There are 12 allenhead capscrews holding the motor together. The service procedure says to remove 10 of them...
