1816 belt replacement & tightening

I just picked an 1816 up without the motor in place. I would like to know how the process works. It had like 6 belts in the box and none were the same size so i am assuming that i need another one to match one of the 6 to run the pumps. I have the hyd. pump belt because it was still hanging on the pump when i got it. Is there online manuals available ? TIA Jim

There are a number of places to buy Case parts. I have used http://www.colemanequip.com/Case_Parts.asp. Most of the places that sell parts have fairly nice exploded diagrams of the parts. You can get the specs for the parts, including the belts, from that site. The standard 1816 had three belts. There isn't much adjustment travel, so you might have to go a size smaller or larger. Also, over the years these things have been modified with different engines and mounting set ups. On the standard set up, the motor had to be at least loosened to get the belts on the drive pulley. It's not clear from your post whether you have the motor, and it was not in place, or whether there was no motor at all with your machine. If you have the old Tecumseh, just slide it in and see if the belt fits. All three are I think the same size. They are standard V belts you can get at any parts store.

I should have added that I have never seen a manual online. I have seen a few printed manuals on eBay, but they have been very expensive.

thank you for the response. the hyd belt is smaller but i can figure that one out. The loader came with the 16hp Tecumseh and i just got it running. It has a broken governor shaft so i am going to rig it to work before i spend any more money on this unit. I guess i need to know what the procedure is to set the belts as i have never had a unit that had the hand brake/clutch lever.

I can't help you with that. I've had 2 1816s, one with the electric clutch and one with the centrifugal clutch. I have read about the mechanical clutch, but I've never seen one. Good luck!

To add to above: Case belt #'s , D 56917 [two for drive pumps] and D 60572 for hyd equipment pump...Get the best quality you can find..
