Hey guys I'm doing work on my friends JD 675b skidsteer, its great how you have to raise the boom up to remove the engine cowling, and it does not have a aux hydraulic pump. So you guys have any ideas on how to get the boom up so I can get into the engine compartment? The battery terminal is soo shot that I can't jump it, I wan't to take the battery out and clean the terminals. Thanks fellas, dirtyhands

Use another machine to lift the boom after you loosen the hoses going to the boom cylinder , it will spill oil and make a mess , then use the boom saftey device which came with the machine to block the boom up

And make sure you punch your buddy in the gut for getting a John Deere.

I agree the John Deere is a pile, its not ment to work on when it is dead in the water!! I don't have anything else to lift the boom up with, so I am going to try tomorrow with my bigazz battery off my 1967 ford 2000 diesel tractor and jump it after I somehow clean the terminals on the battery. It seems John Deere over engineers everything with crappy chinese junk, and you get a problem like this once its beatened to death for years, with only hot work maintenance being done, no preventive. Thanks guys, I will let you know what happens! ------------->dirtyhands

After i saw the Deere thread i just knew bobcat_ron would have to have a few words :)
You aren't alone in the sorrow of the Deere design, others in the past have cursed the Deere name because of something as simple as a flat bettery.
Good luck getting it started, i haven't had much luck jumping a diesel engine. The cables just have too much resistance and produce a bit too much smoke from the connections for me.... All i can suggest is to attach as many jumper cables in parallel as you can to try and get as much current in as possible. Use the shortest cables possible.

I am not sure about the skiders , but know the Deere excavators come from Hytachi , recently a guy had me evaluate a Hytachi 120 he wanted to buy , it was worn out and I suggested getting prices from Deere and Hytachi on the same size machine , the Deere was $ 34,000 more and the only differene I see is the motor , paint and the decals , seems you pay for the name ---------------another trick we have learned with Deere Parts is when you got your list together of part numbers for your yellow machine , send it to a JD green dealer as alot of the parts are used on both green and yellow machines , so some of those part numbers will be in the green system , the same part will be about 40-50% cheaper if it's green

I have experienced the same as far as the JD-Hitachi parts, Hitachi is always cheaper even if it's not in stock. Just to clear some things up though, John Deere makes the following of their products---All skidsteer models, not the older ones, New Holland made them,---- the bulldozer line from models 450-550 series, the 650-1250 are built by Liebherr and painted in yeller bellied yellow, I got into a good argument with a JD sales rep over this and I proved him wrong when I showed him a printed out PDF of Liebherr's same machines,---- the TLB (tractor loader backhoe) line from the smallest little compact 110 TLB to the biggest 710 series, no questions there, tractors are what they are good at, anything painted green is questionable, some farm tractors are made in pieces in countries like Mexico and France and shipped to North America so it's a grey area,---- all the Excavators are made by Hitachi, Deere owns over 50% of the Hitachi name,--- all graders are made by Champion from the smallest to biggest and the Articulated Dump Trucks (ADT) are made by Moxy and painted yeller.

Update- Got the damn thing started, only in service mode. I'm thinking its some interlock problem now, my guess that stupid black box thing in the cab. The ass switch has been jumped, everything else seems fine, but the diagnostic LED is not coming on for the "SOL" I guess that means shit out of luck or solinoid or maybe both!? It would be nice to see a parts and wire diagram, John Deere doesn't help with parts, but I can get a filter and oil off there website, thats about it! So New Holland made the 675b? Thanks guys for the help!

Grey market was the term for years , but the new term , I'd guess to make it more friendly is World Market , you have to be careful here in the USA with true World Market machines , as I have seen people get hurt from flipping machines and the FLOPS and ROPS are not to USA specs which opens up a huge law suit when OSHA gets invovled ------- Also know that alot of John Deere engines come from France , a city called Serine , from what I heard the entire city was built up around the JD engine plant ---------the New Hollands , Ford ,Case and Kobelco all are owned by Fiat , there is a weight break on the Kobelcos as how they are named , think it's 16,000 lbs up is called a Kobelco , under a New Holland , which is suppose to start using the name CNH , heard engineers from Kobelco started there own thing with backing from Lou Gong and are producing a machine now called the Lou Gong , been seeing a few show up at the rental houses here , Link Belt is really a Sumatoma , Cat excavators are really a Mitshibitsi , have heard the story that 90% of the worlds excavators come from a 250 mile radius in Japan and they are all very similar in design and components ----you hear so much don't know whats true any more

All companies build parts in different countries, from the big three, to harley davidson. John deeres ag equipment is there main stay. With the powertech engines (deere designed engine). There are not many companies that still have some limited parts and running survivors from 1837. I will say that I have a bobcat, better skid steer especially compared to the older ones. But, I would rather deal with deere on parts then bobcat anyday.
