well I just bought a LS170 with the 52HP (I think) diesel engine...I wasn't paying attention and I ran it out of fuel last night...I put more fuel in it today and it ran for a second, burned the rest of the fuel up that was in the lines I guess then shut off and wont start now...it cranks now but doesn't start...i'm not familiar with working on skid steers and I don't know how to prime it or anything...any ideas how to fix it? Thanks in advance

Manual states
Remove cover over fuse panel up by your right ear.
move service toggle switch to service position from run position.
Turn the key to run until solid fuel come out of the line.
Replace line and start engine, leave it run until the pump self bleeds.
Move the switch back to the run position and put the cover back over the fuses.

I loosened the hose going to the injection pump, flipped the toggle switch forward (I don't know if it was in the right position anyways, it's been painted over), turned the key one click and I couldn't get any fuel to come out of the hose...do you know if the toggle is in the service position when it is flipped forward?...I think I did everything right and still nothing happened?...i'm thinking maybe the transfer pump might've just went bad on it because I don't hear it pumping anything through there, and fuel sure aint coming out like it should

Toggle forward = run I believe
rearward = service, Loader boom lift and tilt are locked in service mode
The electic fuel pump should run anytime the key is on, I can hear mine in the cab.
So check your fuses and relays or mayby your lift pump died.

I checked my fuses...and they all look good...I don't have the cover or a manual for the ones over my right ear though...so i'm not sure what all of them are for, but none of them were burnt...the only thing I saw wrong with the fuses in the back was that there is a 25A fuse in the EIC place, and on the cover it called for a 5A it's hard to get to that dang lift pump with the arms down though...I can barely even see it By the way, I appreciate the help Thanks

pump will go on in either service or run position with the key turned
It's the simplest things that go wrong...well today I pulled the pump out...hooked it straight to the battery and it ran...so I checked the wires running to it...they had current...looked where the pump was grounded...and it's coated in a bunch of paint...I guess the people that had it before me just took the wires off...painted over it...and stuck em back on enough where it could ground it at that time...I reckon that was the problem at least...because it starts up and runs fine now that I scraped the paint off Thanks for the help everybody

Those simple fixes can be frustrating but at least they are easy on the wallet!
I have found...
that often if a problem crops up soon after something was worked on, there is a good chance the problem was caused during the repair. Then apply this to a new purchase someone else has worked on and who know, great mechanic or otherwise.
