I recently purchased a Thomas 25GT that had been fitted with a horizontal Shaft Loncin 2V78 22HP Chinese copy V Twin. Everything runs fine but the charging circuit only puts out about 2amps. The engine has a transitorized magneto through a rectifier/regulator for the 12vdc charging, which does not have enough grunt as I need about 10amps. I've done all the electrical meter checks and everything is correct. The original engine was a Kohler 25HP Command Pro which put out 15amps. The Kohler stator has 18 radial coils where-as the Loncin has only one, so I think there in lies the problem. I thought they may do an uprated stator kit but being a Chinese copy I can't get any info on this engine. I wonder which engine they copied!!! I have thought about chasing up the measurements for a Kohler stator kit to see if there is any chance it would fit!! Has anyone had a similar problem that they have overcome? Any info appreciated as it's getting annoying having to re-charge the battery after each use!!
