My unit starts and runs great if I jump the coil. Otherwise I get no power to the switch. I've checked the fuses in front and they are good. Where would I look in the engine compartment to find out where the electrical loss would be?

My thought is your not jumping the coil you are jumping the starter silenoid check the plug on the left hand side of the seat first then your key switch or inbetween

No I'm running a hotwire to the coil. I've checked the ignition switch and there's no power to it. No idea that there is a plug on the left hand side of the seat, I'll take a look. I'm starting to think there isn't really anything between the fuse and the hot so I may end up looking for bad wire.

How are you starting it if there is no power to the key? I have a 743 so there are some differances

On a 742B it is gas so running a hotwire to the coil allows spark to the plugs. Also running a hotwire to the coil allows electric to back feed so you can turn the starter using the key since power is back fed. Although the starter can be jumped at the solenoid but since the electric is back fed you can just use the key. I was/am trying to find out if there may be another fused line between the solenoid and the fuses in front before I go the trouble of lifting the cage and trying to find out if there is a bad wire. The confusing part is why when I beck feed it the starter will engage with the key which tells me there is/should be no problem between the ignition switch and the solenoid. But the only thing between the solenoid and the battery is the battery positive. To say I'm getting confused is putting it mild.

Does it have one solenoid on the starter and one little one on the side like a old ford? Not sure but sound like a short in there on the run circuirt

No it's a Mitsubishi motor and only has one solenoid on the starter. Thinking there's a broken wire somewhere but not going to be able to do anything before this weekend. Was just hoping someone could come here and say hey, this is what's wrong, lol.

in my 643 you can see almost all of the wiring from the back door. all of the power goes to the starter and splits off from there to only a few different places. check all of the wires on the starter. one by one i've had to replace all of them over the last few months. i don't know if a gasser is the same but i don't see why it would be any different.

I agree bad wire,.............bad coil?
