907 backhoe

just picked one of these up. anyone have any experience with these? i heard they are very jumpy and kinda fast. i only will probably need it a few times a year, no serious excavation or anything like that. will it pull my 643 towards the hole, or will it be ok?

You have to give people more than a day to respond.
I don't know how big of a unit it is, but mine will pull my 743 towards a hole if you grab something wrong. Nothing you can do about it. If that happens, you just move back and dig again.
As for jumpy, that is just the side to side movement. If its too fast, you can install flow restrictors to the rams to slow it down. All the other functions are just fine as the rams have a fairly long stroke.

the 907 only digs about 7 feet or so, its small. perfect for what i need it for. the restricter is a good idea. i talked to an a guy whos been running machines for 50 years or so, and he said he used this particular unit one time, and it went so fast side to side he parked the bobcat and dug by hand.

I think most will swing really fast if they don't have restrictors, i know mine does. I need to add them to tame it down a little. The digging force and speed will not be altered with it either.

If you buy restrictors buy the adjustable flow ones. If you have access to a lathe you may be able to make them. On my davis hoe I made them to replace the factory ones which were in the valve bank in the fitting where the hose enters. They are just a 1/8 thick washer with a hole. Ended up with a .090 hole to slow it down .

Just curious, but you know that it will require more mounts other than just the quick attach plate. lots of pictures in the media files of various methods of mounting.

oh yeah. it has the trailer balls. i bought a 643 that came with it, the backhoe was just at a separate location and i havent picked it up yet.

just went and gave it a good lookover. pistons all look excellent, one has a little rust spot on it. dont know if thats a big deal or not. the hydraulic lines all have small cracks in them. i assume this means they need replacement, but you guys know better than i do. control levers all move freely, just need a little lube. the lines by the bobtach plate have all metal armor on them, so i don't know the condition of those. could they be bad too?

The surface rust on the ram rod, just give it a small rub with wet and dry sand paper or it will chew up your seals when you draw the rod in.
Cracked hoses does mean they will need replacing at some point. They may last for a while, but it is a weak spot. Age and being in the sun will seed up the process.

Are you talking about the hoses going to the control block? If so, this is to protect the hoses from abrasion.
The unit looks to be in great shape. Far better than mine does.

yea, that unit does look good, but it's not it. the one i have has been used about 4 times, probably no more than 20 hours use. paint still looks good, but it has been outside for a while. i need to replace the quick connections because it has been sitting on the ground. i might as well change them to the new flat faced ones. the bucket is full of water. i am nervous is has holes in it, but if its holding water it should be ok haha. ill try to get a pic today.

Are you sure it is a 907? Fold down stabilizers and the locations of the ram pivots on the middle of the boom tell me it is a 911.
Should be interesting on a 643...
