lol, back in 1993 I was driving my 78 Chevy Blazer 4x4 to work. A month earlier in a pinch I had grabbed the wrong head to replace one that cracked. I hadn't realized it was the wrong head till a week later. I couldn't change it though as I was working 12 hours a day 7 days a week. on this morning I get stuck behind a semi going 45 in a 55. Running late I pass him doing....ummm....90..... Well right in front of this semi was a state trooper, didn't know that till I was beside him, too late. As I pass him POOF! A huge puff of blue smoke, then add in white as well. Just blew the engine! Sprayed oil all over that pretty white trooper car too. I get out open the hood and there was a loud pop and then something spinning on the ground. It got so hot the temp sender exploded! The trooper was nice enough, no ticket! Turns out the head put on was a 350 head not a 305. That 350 head a caused #1 to lean out under load and melted a hole right through the center of the piston. The 305 uses larger valves and it starved the opposite side of fuel causing the burned piston. Usining 305 heads on a 350 will make lots of torque and give you plenty of kick properly set up cam and carb wise. I ran a Holley 650 with an offroad cam specially ground for torque The combination allowed my Blazer to run and win a lot of mudbogs and in one summer I won 3 times the money that the build cost me.oh, I did have to was the troopers car.....but he took me to work
