Has anyone built a Landplane? I'm getting ready to start on one. Pretty much a strait forward project. But always open to look at diff. types. Just made a set of fork's & hay spear. Must have more toy's/attachment's. LOL dennis

I've thought about it but I made a spike harrow instead, its a 1 inch re-bar frame with lots of 1/2 in re-bar hanging down and it will level a lot in no time and pull lots of small brush. I tried the chain link fence thing and that was like pulling a blanket, it did nothing as far as leveling or pulling small brush. I don't have pictures of it in my gallery but it real easy to build and most of all, very effective on making ground smooth again. I had a concrete truck rut my yard pretty bad and this fixed it in no time. It looks close to this without the cost

You can go to a construction site and get free old re-bar that may be bent or rusted, use the bent ones for spikes and the straighter ones for main frame. Happy building

Thanks for the reply Jim. I've got access to the steel & a machine shop. Figure I would make something factory looking. Plan on doing custom wrk with it. I have a 3 point hitch harrow for my tractor. I bet your's does a good job with the rebar spikes. dennis

Dennis, It does a great job, the only thing I would do is to add more spikes/teeth to cover more ground, right now they are too far apart. It will level and smooth rough land fast and when I built this, I was pulling with a Chevy S-10 and it works great and I use a Case 1845 C now and it does even better and I can go forward and reverse without flat tires, I have it mounted to my boom with chains

I plan to build land plane, can anyone tell me what the angle is degrees of the mounting point?.

Thanks

I was going to also build a land plane but ended up buying a used one also was thinking of building a small harrow also with the rods closer together as for the angles if you have any other attachments you should be able to get them off of there

For some reason the pictures of land planes I pulled up looked to have a steeper angle??

I am going to try and build one today. I dont think the attachment angle is critical because most machines can tilt to at least parallel with the ground (this gives me an idea to see if you could build it that way to save on steel??). I was thinking about buying one but little ones are hard to find and I dont want to overload my little machine. I was searching online and saw quite a few different designs and even a few with videos. I am going to make the base out of old scaffold brace angles I have laying around. If I can find cheap strong stuff I may add some teeth to the front edge that would not dig in unless you did not have the thing flat to the ground. One question I will just have to try is to have a screen or no screen. I think I will try it without and if its not working right it will be easy to tack one on there. I also thought about making it to attach to the bottom of the bucket. Anyone try that or think of a reason not to? Seems like it could save some steel and welding. I was thinking of a few inches of space between the plane and bucket for the dirt to 'flow' and some hooks maybe with locking bolts to hold into the bucket.

That sound like a good idea, I managed to gather all metal needed to build one, except the expanded metal, I need it 3/8 thick. I like em' beefy...

I ended up working on my machine all day so I did not have time to work on the plane. I was looking at it and dont (at least with my machine) see any reason it cant be a flat frame since the mount has more than enough movement in it. Seems like it would save some bracing and such. Any reason it wouldnt work like that?

I got my old scaffold scrap cut up and got the basic frame welded together yesterday. Forgot the camera or I would have pictures. First discovery is that my machine is almost impossible to drive without the weight of a bucket on the front. Good part is it only tips back about 20* and with some gentle operation of the controls it lands back on all 4. Plan B at this point is to build the plane to clamp onto the bucket and see how that works. So far its all built from scrap so I am not out anything other than some time wear on tools. At least if this idea does not work at least I know my little machine should be able to handle the weight of a regular size tool. What do you guys think of my design idea? [IMG

I now read how to post pictures and either Im doing it wrong or its because like others said it does not work well with firefox. IE messes up too many other things so if you want to see my super drawing just go to the link between the IMG brackets.

Eldo, One you have a photo hosted online, you can simply r click , copy the photo (not a thumbnail of the photo) and paste it into the text box here, as i did with your.
The best policy with links is to have them on a separate line from the other text.

I finally had time to finish building it. I ended up just making hooks on the front and using turnbuckles on the back to hold it to the bucket. Used it for about 1/2 hour on various places in the yard and it seemed to work well. Took it off to check it out and found that several of my welds had broken. Found some different angles to get in there and get some more weld area for the mid ones that I suspect just broke because the back ones broke. Also welded in some gusset plates in the areas that I think are the more critical spots. I think I had a total of $15 invested because most of the material was from some scaffold braces that came with a $36 scaffold set. Will try and remember my camera next time. Do planes in general seem to work better in reverse? Or is it just me, my machine, or my home made plane that makes it seem that way?

I made one last year to clamp to my bucket. Its similar to the CE Attachments one. The one with the 2 cutting edges and the screen on part ot it. I had it on my larger bucket. I had to lay down 1 to 2 inches of topsoil on a gravel bank at a lake house. I only had a medium light materials bucket at the time and couldnt see the edge. I laid the topsoil down and got alot of the waves out. I made the copy to clamp to the bucket in a hurry. It worked great did 3 lawns there that week. Im now redoing part of it to make it quicktach. The expanded metal mesh make a good clod breaker and helps screen out some of the trash. It also woks as a sifting bucket in a way. Take care Taylor Lambert

How much lower are the angle iron plates put compared to the side plates or are they level with the sides.
