Ok, I have a few questions. I looked at Bobcat that a friend of a friend has. It is a 742B with serial #509418927. It has the Ford gas engine with a rod sticking out the side of a block. Overall it is in good looking shape and it has new tires. The story goes, he bought it two years ago for $8000 and put about 50 hrs on it. It now has 50?? hrs. He loaned it to a brother in law in which the engine threw the rod, (sounds like my luck). He said everything worked great until then and it has been sitting since then (2 yrs). Here are a few questions that I have. First, is there anything in the hydraulics that would lock up and cause the motor to grenade? Can you tell me what year this thing is off of the serial #? He said that a mid - late 70s ford engine out of a Mustang or Pinto would bolt right in. Is this true? If not. what would be an affordable alternative? I,m thinking I could find a good engine, through it in, replace some filters, seat cover, etc. and sell it for a pretty good profit. Thanks for any info.
