Great site I ned help I am a home builder and know nothing about these machines. My 853 left side drive has stopped working everything else ,up,tilt, right drive is fine push left stick it just bogs down nothing else any help would be greatly apprieciated.

Put some blocks under the rear of the machine and then tilt the bucket until all four wheels are off the ground. Try the sticks and see if the left side will turn at all. While it up also check the amount you can by hand turn each wheel to make sure a bearing hasn't froze up. If all four wheels feel the same the next place to look is at the drive motor. Someone that knows more about an 853 should jump in soon with other answers.

Can you jack the machine up and see if you can turn the wheels on the left and see if they move the same amount? They should only move a small amount as the chains take up the slack. Hopefully its a broken chain that has gotten caught, if not it sounds like your motor may have packed it in. As you mention the motor bogs down it appears you have something that is stuck, hopefully your chain, check the easiest things first.
What did it do before it stooped working? Was it slower or less powerful than the right side?

Checking the linkages is a good idea, but as you did say it bogs down leads me to believe its the motor. Still doesn't hurt to check everything thats easy first.

Drive motor is problem .Any place to get used one or rebuild? And how involved is it to replace ... thanks .

Beyond the dealer you can try http://www.skidloaderpumps.com/servlet/StoreFront for the motor. If its not listed on their site call them.
Seconded, if Levi doesn't have it, he can usually get it. I have dealt with him a few times, very pleased with the service.

I'd think the chain and sprocket could be binding on the bottom of the case caused by the bearings failed on either the carrier or an axle , if not that then it is probally in the sunstrand transmission pump since you replaced the motor and feel it's "good ?"
