Have a 743 that temp gauge was not working since I bought it. Gauge and sensor were both bad, wire was good. Put in new gauge and sensor. Gauge shows running hot after just a few minutes of running, antifreeze level is full and reservoir at line, radiator is not building up pressure, radiator water temp is running 120F using thermometer, checked temp at thermostat housing and at bottom radiator fitting with laser, just a few degrees apart at 116F. So two questions, is it not building pressure due to cap and is the new sensor or gauge possibly bad?

It's always possible the gauge or sender is bad, no coolant pressure could be the cap, but also if the coolant is not actually heating up, that could be the reason too. as you checked the temperature at the sender, it should still be well in the green

Thanks, Grounded across the gauge and it goes all the way over. Should the sensor be at 0 ohms from post to ground? I will put a new cap on it tomorrow.

I believe that it should have a 180 f degree thermostat , do you know if it has one in it?
