I live in an area that mostly has clay based soil. We also have pockets of sand under a thin layer of topsoil. The clay is like concrete. Shoveling by hand is almost impossible. I can dig it with a potato fork but I break a lot of tines from bending fatigue. Mostly, I dig with a pick. When you wheel the pick hard, sparks often result. ... so I didn't have a lot of hope digging here with my little LS125. I have discovered, however, this little machine is extremely capable of digging this soil. With a tooth bucket, it digs great. Without, I have to wiggle the smooth edge to get it through the material. I have a ton of respect for the little LS125, although it helps to have experimented with different digging techniques. I'm sure I'll continue to learn and improve over time.
