NH L555 Perkins shutdown, won't start

Update: I unpinned the boom cylinders and jacked up the boom arms to get to the engine. I messed with the throttle linkage for 30 minutes or so, trying to figure out why it was binding and not smooth........Cranked it over and it started up. I ran it for an hour or so putting it back together, I...

Belly pan or mud guard L555 1989 build.

My 555 was missing the front two shields.......I guess farmers don't need them! The fuel tank has many scares in it from being run w/o protection. I used 1/4 plate to replace them and and am confident the machine is well protected underneath now.

NH L555 Perkins shutdown, won't start

Unit has been running great. Started unit this morning to move my tiller, started and ran strong for 10 minutes, when moving into barn, the engine hesitated, then as I tested throttle it died. I am very diesel illiterate, but I believe the issue may be related to the throttle/fuel mechanism: The...

NH L555 snow chain and enclosure questions.

Hey guys, Just sold my L455 and bought a L555. Love the extra bucket capacity the stronger engine and heavier machine, but was a little disappointed how it handled pushing snow today. My questions are: 1)What are others impression of the L555's performance in snow? 2)Does anyone run their L555...

    NH L455

Mike was right about the chain failing; The right side chain must have gotten too slack and broke a link. I drained the hyd fluid, opened the inspection plate and found the long drive chain broken. I bought a couple of 60H repair links and hope to install tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes...

    NH L455

Thanks for the feedback Mike! I need to tow it back to the shop tomorrow. I didn't think it was mechanical because there isn't any hydrolic noise when trying to move that right side. I would expect that if the chain was wedged or some other mechanical obstruction the hydraulics would whine and...

    NH L455

Took my 1986 L455 Diesel version into my woods for a quick job and of course at the very furthest point on my small acreage away from the barn the hydrolic drive on the right side stopped working completely. I checked the linkage, it is ok. It won't move either direction, so I don't think it's a...

    Help! NH L455 Won't move.

Nothing will move. I turned it off and on several times, hydrastatic alarm comes on right away. I'm hoping its a stuck "over pressure" valve somewhere.

    Help! NH L455 Won't move.

Hello Guys, I have an older (1986-7) NH L455. I have just in the last month replaced a bunch of o-rings on the control valve and every fitting I could get a wrench on to fix a hydraulic leak. The machine was running sweet w/o any leaks for about a month when it stopped this morning. I was...

    L455 "RollBack" angle

Hey thanks for the feedback Mike and Tazza. This is abit of a mystery, that cylinder and Q/A look stock, but obviously something is not correct. I will look around for another NH of that vintage and see what the bucket and cylinder look like. I may be able to shorten the bracket that attaches...

    L455 "RollBack" angle

This is a continuation of the discussion in my other thread: I looked closely at the bucket and cylinder and see no reason the bucket shouldn't rollback towards the cab. There is nothing limiting the travel mechanically and the cylinder arm has about 2" expossed which would be enough. My...

L455: want to convert to "modern" QA

This is my first skid steer, so I just figured that my bucket wasn't suppossed to roll back toward me. This was frustrating because material of course spills out of the bucket when traveling. I have almost no rollback at ground level and plenty of dump angle at full height, though I haven't...

L455: want to convert to "modern" QA

Thanks again for the feedback. I think welding the new QA to the existing will keep it close. Actually it will be as close as the other versions that attach to the arms via brackets. Heres another question; My bucket won't articulate back towards the operator, my manual says I should get 35...

L455: want to convert to "modern" QA

Thanks for the reply, My bucket does have an angled back wall so that won't be an issue. I too thought about putting the load out further and reducing lift cap. I just don't know if putting it out 3-4" further will limit it significantly.

L455: want to convert to "modern" QA

The NH QA on my skid loader is broken and the bucket is welded on. I can grind off the welds to free the bucket fairly easily. I am considering buying an after market QA without brackets and welding it directly to the old QA. I figure this would keep the new QA as close as to the lift arms as...
