tried to start my 643 a while ago, it started right up but kept stalling. thought it was out of fuel added 5 gals, did the same thing. fuel filter be gettiing clogged from the cold?

Get some Power Service Diesel 911, fill the fuel filter with a 50/50mix of it and fuel, then pour the recomended amout in the tank.

it has done this a couple times in the summer, only it will stall one time then when it gets warmed up its fine, not to this extreme. could i just need a fuel filter period?

Could also be something going on in the tank like a cracked pick up tube or crud blocking the pick up. Before my pick up tube broke off completly it would occasionally stall for seemingly no reason. This happened several times before the tube broke.

bobcat was supposed to have replaced that however i'm not so certain. sometimes it seems when the tank is full i have a small leak.

How cold was the outside temp? My bet would be the filter has some water inside of it or your fuel isnt treated. Most cold weather fuel problems I have witnessed all lead to replacing the fuel filter.

went to try again t byoday, turned it over a couple times and the starter started to smoke. this is getting old.
Do you have regular oil in the engine or synthetic? I have synthetic in everything here, makes a world of difference when its below zero. It costs a little more but it starts and gets oil right away to the parts that need it.

i don't know, i have no changed it since i have owned it.

7 months or so, only used it a handful of times. i knew the guy that owned it before, it was lightly used it's whole life and had under 1000 hours.
got it started again today, stalled after a minute. starting to think the cause of the problem is the machine creeps so when it starts its under a load and it has a hard time catching up if that makes sense.

I know what you mean, try turning the key to on and press the traction lock overide button, the brake should snap up. Then try starting it.
You may want ot adjust your steering too, get it set right and it won't creep any more.

i plan to. i think this is a few diff problems all compounding at once. my fuel gauge isn't accurate, i think i ran out of fuel, and it sucked up some ice or water or something. i added more fuel and primed and between the cold and creeping it it just a mess haha. it will be 55 wednesday, that will be the day i know for sure. i think there is some ice somewhere in the line.
