The older model Skidsteers (600, 610, 500, 444, etc) have a viewing panel with 20 some odd 3/8" studs to hold it in place. Over time most of the older machines will have broken or stripped out studs. They appear to have been some type of 'spot' weld originally. Need some advice on how best to replace some of those when necessary.

JB weld maybe?
Do you mean the little panel with the oil light and ammeter on it? How about drilling a hole close to the broken stud and using a self-tapping bolt?
They come in all kinds of sizes and work good in thinner metal , otherwise just drill and tap the hole.

I assume your talking about the side gear case covers. I'd replace the bad ones with wheels studs from a Polaris ATV. Polaris part number 7518378 is a 3/8”-24 wheel stud. You may have to open up the original hole a little to get the knurled area of the stud pressed in.

Yes…..I am talking about the side gear/chain case cover. There was never a hole drilled in the steel to put the original studs in….they must have been a 'spot weld' type of deal. The tolerances inside (in some spots) would not even allow for the ATV stud idea as some parts must slide out with no interference. I do like the ATV stud idea however to replace some of the studs where tight tolerances are not an issue.
