OK, this is a little bit of a mystery to me. I have a vf4d from my 71 melroe bobcat. The crank pin size is about 1.750. I ordered some babbit rods from ebay which are about 1.175 std size. I ordered a crank from ebay which when I got it measures 1.875. My original crank is a CA55 S10. The crank I received is a CA59A. I realized I cannot use the CA59A as not only are the crank pins too big but the rear stub is 2" too short and not tapered to accept the drive sheave. I guess my question should be is the CA55 suppose to have 1.750 crank pins and would it also have the proper length front and rear shafts? any info would be greatly appreciated.

Pins on both the VH4D and the VF4D cranks are 1.875 - 1.876 standard. My guess is that you have a rebuilt VF4D with a crank that has been turned .010. You MUST have a crank that is spec'ed out to a bobcat application in order to have the correct short tapered shaft needed to accept the variable speed sheave. The last I checked a "Bobcat" spec'ed crank for a VH4D (new) was $1000.00 -$1200.00 while a more common long/short straight shaft crank is only a couple of hundred. I can't speak to the babbit rods as I have no idea what you purchased.

A couple more thoughts……… I gave you the price on a VH4D crank just as a comparison. I have never repowered a bobcat with the VF4D as I consider the VH4D to be a far superior engine. That said….. why are you buying a new crank..is your crank trash? It can be turned two more times (IIRC) and still have bearings available. Turning your crank would be a far cheaper option.

Skidder……..you have not responded in a couple of days so I hope you are not buying more items from E-bay without being positive what you need or what the item actually is. You stated earlier that you had burned a piston in your engine. If that is the case I'm not sure why you felt the need for a new crank or connecting rods as both were probably re-usable. Great caution must be used when buying parts on E-bay as many of the sellers don't actually know what they are selling……for example, there is an ad now for a "Bobcat 610 VH4D Engine" $2800.00…..it is not…..it is a VH4D but is not for a "Bobcat" as it does not have the correct output shaft and I'll bet if we could see the other side it would have no output shaft for the hydro pump. I often see crankshafts for sale for "VF4D, VH4D" as if they were interchangeable …..they are not. If you are not sure….ask…everyone is here to help…..the only silly question is the one not asked.
