Can anyone tell me what the E stands for and can I use it? Have chance to get one for the one owner since new 89' 743 I just picked up for $800 with a bad lower end (3 inch hole in block) Has 1702 in it now. I know I'll have to change out intake , exhaust , pan etc if this will motor will work. Thanks

I have never done it myself, but you should be able to swap the sumps over and the intake manifold. Everything else i believe will match up.
Sorry, i don't know what the E stands for. The V2203 is a later model and is 2.2litre vs the V1702 that is 1.7L.

Thanks Tazza ,I know the V2203 will work as I put on in another 743 but this one has the E and I just wanted know what the E is for. The motors look pretty much the same. I tend to think maybe this is for a generator which the set speed would maybe be different. Still looking for 743 blower housing ,flywheel to set up a 743 that did'nt have it. Tried a triple fan setup with a plenum but still can't get the temp down. I'm the guy with the piggyback gauges question that you answered.

I thought most of the V2203s were V2203E. My 763 runs a V2203E as does a 753G i have. The E i guess could have something to do with the emmissions? as its a tier three or something close to that.
The speed is simply adjusted with the stops in the throttle lever to set min and max speeds.
I would have thought the thermo fans would have been more than enough to keep the temperature down. I'm sure the air flow in my 743 isn't that much with a stock setup. It doesn't feel like its moving a lot of air.

With the three fans I can feel quite a bit of air moving through radiator which I had boiled out and checked at the rad shop. I was wondering if I have a leak from my exhaust into coolant in my head. The coolant is slightly discolored ( slightly muddy ,Which if it sets in a bottle it separates and settles to the bottom) but not a grey or silver color as one might expect from an exhaust leak. Anyway to check for for this type of leak? Any suggestions will help of what to look for too. Oh one more thing I modified the brackets to the hydraulic cooler to set it up against the bottom of the rad. Don't know if this will cool it down enough ( no gauges or sender hooked up yet). What should be temp of hydraulic oil ? Thanks... Mike

Checked past posts on exhaust in coolant. I have no steam in exhaust, no fuel smell, no oily residue in coolant, no bubbles. Have new thermostat (180), new sender and gauge, new . coolant, new belt (tight), new 16# cap. I guess I'll just have to pick up a temp gun and check for hot spots on engine. If none then I guess it's just not cooling down at the rad.

If you don't have bubbles in the coolant or losing coolant, i think your head will be fine. The 'mud' may just be residue inside the engine.
I think your cap may be a little high too, i thought mine were about 7 lb, but i'd have to look at that. It won't be causing your problem though.
The hydraulic oil does have a temp sender, its mounted to the port block, if yours has the big fat hose that connects to the left side, its the brass sender at the bottom. I think it kicks in about 70c? i'm not sure on the temperature, sorry but its there all the same.
