Traction Lock Issue.

I have a 763G. Year is 2000. This cold morning when I started the Bobcat it started chirping and the traction light started blinking. I drove it about 100 feet and it locked up. Could not get it to release. I took the fuse panel cover off and found that the 30 amp traction fuse had blown. I replaced it and turned the key on and it blew again. But it allowed me to drive and operate the unit until I raised the bar and it went back to the lock mode where I could not move. I replaced the fuse, started the unit and it blew the fuse again but would let me operate until I raised the bar again. Not sure where to start looking.....is it a short? Thanks, Mike

Probably a short in the pick up side of the solenoid. There is a pick up that powers for a few seconds and a hold that holds it up

This is a follow up on my problem. I must have a short somewhere that is very periodic. The traction lock solenoid was bad again.... and I had replaced about a year ago. I ordered another traction lock solenoid and replaced it yesterday and if operated just fine and I restarted it several times and engaged it several times and no problems. I have no idea where to start searching for a short in the wiring for the traction lock solenoid. Any thoughts?

Three wires come out of the solenoid. One is ground, the second one is pulling and the third is holding. The pull wire should have a current of only about 10 seconds, then the current should only be on the holding wire. If the pulling wire does not shut off correctly, it can cause burning of a fuse and short in the solenoid. Check the old solenoid, which part has burned it?

If the pull relay is sticking, it could burn it out too. The pull coil draws a far bit of power, if it is not turned off soon after doing it's job, it will burn out.
You will have a relay to switch the oull coil on and off, not sure if there will be one for the hold or not, as it will be a fairly low current circuit.

Yes, Tazza is right. There is another option - a faulty rpm sensor.It tells the controller that the enginehas exceeded 450 rpm (that is, the engine has ignied) and switches off the pull wire (relay)

I didn't think of that, but makes sense.

Another place for a possible short burning fuses is the lock solenoids for the loader. They are tied in with the park
