I'm putting a new seal kit in my tilt cyl. but the piston ring that came with the kit is too narrow. The goove in the piston is 3/16 and the piston ring in the kit is only 2/16. Yes, I have the correct seal kit. Anyone else run into this problem? Someone else had this cyl. open in the past and all I can think is that the piston is from a different cyl. (It was bolted on upside down). This is from a Bobcat 742. The cyl. is PN6539810 and the seal kit is PN6804605. There are old PN's but I assume that they are back compatable. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I think there was about four different tilt cylinder used on those, and it seems like every one broke ar some point. You either have the wrong seal kit or the cylinder is a "hybreed". I would take the cylinder to a full service hyd shop and see if they can piece something together.

All it takes is for one previous owner to have machined it to take a different seal.
I personally get my seals from my locak hydraulic shop, they match the seals to the piston and glad nut, i then know it's right.

Just to update anybody interested. I took the piston to a seal shop with the old blown out seal... The old seal was a cup style that should only be used on single action cylinders and the seal shop is having to cut a custom seal to fit the piston. Must have been modified or borrowed from a jack. I still can't get over the fact that it was installed upside down.

That's what happens when people that don't know what they are doing 'repair' cylinders. The seal that was in it would have worked to an extent, but it would still leak down, as you know.
Good to hear your shop can repair it for you. I have had to do this before when there is some damage, you machine it out to take a larger seal to remove the wear.
