Figured this was the best way to refresh a quick question I posted on my old thread. Had no lift on my bobcat 863. Found that something is wrong/not moving in the detent sleeve where the spring/balls are. According to my manual you should just be able to pull the detent sleeve off and with a rag wrapped around it catch the spring/balls. BUT I can't pull the sleeve off! Been yanking, prying, pulling, and nothing. I can spin it around but not pull it off. Am I missing something? Anybody have this issue? Ideas? Thanks.

It's possible that the wear got so bad that the balls have dislodged and stuck the cap to the rod. All i can think is to turn and pull and see if it will move. Absolute worst case, you will need to cut the cap off carefully yo not damage the spring and spool.

Just went through this with my 753. I can't find the manual so if you happen to have copy you could email that would be great. Anyway, I ended up turning and pulling at the same time. Once I got it apart I learned why it was a bear. I had two grooves from the sliding in and out motion. One ball looked ok, the other looked more like a lopsided cube. There is a groove towards the bottom of the cap that secures it in place preventing it from just sliding off. Once I spun it and worked it the bad ball eventually caught on one of its flat sides and allowed me to remove the cup. Just my 2 cents.
