So I started my 743 today. Ran about a minute and died. Would restart and immediately die. Came to the forum to look for similar issues and found several mentions of the primer bulb. I went out, primed it, and again it started and diet. Started again and remained running with good throttle. It ran fine and I finished my work with no more trouble. Mild weather so ice/gelled fuel isn't an issue. I'm guessing I'm picking up air in the fuel line somewhere. What is the likely suspect? TIA!

Check the fuel pickup lines all the way to the pump. All it takes is a pinhole for air to get sucked in.

My 743 would run fine for some period of time, then start dieing down and eventually die. It would start again, but just barely, and buck and die.
Long story short, the fuel pickup line was deteriorated and broken off inside the tank. I decide to pull the tank and clean it out. (I pulled the fuel sender for a hole to work out of...)
I found remnants of at least two prior fuel lines that have died in the nearly 40 years that the machine has been kicking...
The pickup was fragile and crumbled in my hand... there was also and old cork in there (from one of the old fuel guage floats...)
When I did this, I decided to replace the supply side fuel line... it wasn't bad, but the primer bulb was about as solid as a dried sponge... I took it out completely. I also replaced the (now non-existent) fuel Strainer on the end of the pickup... this helps weigh down the fuel hose in the tank. I found two old strainers in the tank, along with lots of bits of old hose and the cork! Quite a bit of a fishing expedition for non-fuel trash!
This fixed all of my problems... worth some new fuel line and a new strainer and a couple/3 hours of labor.
