Hi everybody
I'm looking for some advice. Our old 610 bobcat has been on the fritz lately. I would replace an ignition component, it would work for a day or two then die. I have replaced cap, wires, plugs, rotor button, points, condenser, coil, ignition switch and the wire between the coil and distributor. Today I replaced the points and it fired right up. It ran great for about two minutes then died, no fire. Anyone have any advice other than light it on fire?

a bad coil or condenser will drive you nuts like that, I saw you got a new ones, but just cause it is new does not mean it is good. check the connections at coil make sure that the I assume wire connectors are in good shape and 12 volts are present with key on. Also there is two types of coils some with a internal resistor some without and a external needs to be used, so research that if you are unsure of what you need.

you need the resisted coil . Bobcat runs 12 volt to the coil . Have you bypast the oil pressure kill switch ? Are you putting grease on the right side of the rubbing block or too much grease ? Condenser usually wont start hot .

I was having similar problems with my ford gas motor. Messaged around changing points etc. Finally bought a whole new distributor from Powerspark from the UK. Came with new coil, wires, and the entire distributor for electronic ignition. Simple install should of done it years ago, even with shipping, tariffs, currency exchange fee and was still well under $300.

Check for voltage to coil when it's dead (key on) that will narrow it down. I see you put a new switch in but it could be losing power between switch and coil or even coming to switch. If it's dead at coil check for voltage coming out of switch and then power to switch. Critters love to chew wires especially over the winter.

just courious,, just what did you find to get it running?
I thought it was the coil. I put in a coil without a resistor. It started 1/2 a dozen times, ran around a bit. Tonight it died again, no fire. I am about to give it a viking funeral

If it stops with the points closed and the ignition is left on for long, I think that can burn up points. The resistor lengthens the points life because when you stop the starter engagement, power to the ignition is then routed thru the resistor circuit. This drops the voltage from 12 to 6 (or thereabouts). I had a Toronado once where the resistor wire broke off the coil. It would crank and not start, but when you let off the starter, the resistor would allow a firing. It was like firing a shotgun when it backfired! LOL! It swelled out the muffler and my wife nearly jumped out of her skin. LOL! Don't give up the faith. It will always be the last thing you change that fixes it.
