1990 743B, 1988hrs. Today went out to the bobcat and hit the starter and it went ziiiing, the starter spins but doesnt engage. I hit the key a couple of times and it caught and started right up. The next time I try to start the Bobcat it did the same thing so i pulled the starter and solenoid. The question is: can i just change the solenoid or do you have to change the starter and solenoid? and is the starter and solenoid something you can buy at your local Napa store, or autozone or do you have to get it from bobcat?

I would change the brushes, solenoid and drive. I did mine in my 743 last winter, it got to the point where it wouldnt engage. Most likely an auto parts store wont have what you need. I got my parts at a local starter/generator repair place. I think it was roughly $70 for everything. If I remember correctly its very similar to the starter in a 90's chevy 6.5L turbo diesel, incase you cant find them else where. Bring your old one with you.
