Hi All - I am new here and recently picked up an older 533 Bobcat, the hydrostatic ( did I spell that right ? ) drive controls work fine but they are sloppy and loose, this does not stop operation of the machine but it makes directional control harder than it needs to be. I am new to this kind of machine, but have mechanical skills and I am looking thoughts or best practice on troubleshooting or repair of this kind of issue ? I can supply more information in reply I just don't know what would be helpful to those in the know at the moment. Thanks in advance !

You need to have a look at the steering controls under the ROPS(roll cage). There're 2 hex nuts near the front supports on the ROPS, remove them and lift the ROPS. If you don't have bucket attached you'll have to put some blocks under the rear of the machine so it doesn't rock back when the cage is all the way back. Move the steering levers and you should be able to see where any slop is.

Great thinks for the advice. I will get on that and report back. It may not be until next weekend, this work thing gets in the way!

I have a 610 that had the same problem. There are adjustments that can be made; however, my problem was worn out holes in the handles and linkages. My solution was to locate brass tubing with an internal diameter to mate with the link pin and drill out the handles and linkages a smidgen undersize, heat the handle or linkage and press the bushings in. Snug as a bug.
