I have a JCT tiller and the motor is bad, I am not having any luck finding a replacement motor. Jct will not reply to my email, that is the only to contact them. Anybody know of a good place to find a motor that will work. From what I can find this motor is a hmsj-400 specs below.

Yes I still have it. Not for sure what they call it but the shaft inside the motor was broken. This is a new tiller never used, my guess the motor broke when they tested it at the factory. Its doubtful I will hear from JCT or that they will warrantee the motor but I would like to hold onto it for a bit longer just incase they do.

I bought a brand new tiller at an auction and the output shaft is broken. Looks like it fell off the delivery truck or something. It also broke the pillow block at the other end. Not sure if we would be able to put our to Orbital Motors together and make a good one or not. I am unable to get ahold of JCT as well.

(Note to self- avoid "JCT" equipment) I claim no expertise, but the material used for those shafts appears to be maybe slightly better than pot metal.

Yea that shaft was made of crap metal and not even remotely properly hardened. Hard to see in the picture but it is twisted some. I am in agreement about avoiding their equipment. Says a lot about a company who wont talk to you when there are issues. Already got me thinking I might want to go ahead and just replace the bearing on the other side, as that is probably a crap bearing.

I ended up buying this one from surplus center, matches pretty close to the jct motor.

Thanks for the Link! That one is a lot cheaper than the ones I have been looking at. Does your tiller work pretty good? My internal shaft is fine. I am in Ohio.

I have yet to use it. The new motor is supposed to be here today. Then I will have to wait for things to dry out its done nothing but rain or snow for the last few weeks.

thanks I was able to find a motor that should work.
Can you let me know where you were able to find a matching motor. I bought a JCT and need a replacement HMSJ-400 Orbit for my rotor tiller & a HMS-160 Orbit for my brush hog. I tried the surplus Center mentioned in the thread and nothing came up on their site with these model numbers. thank you.

Sorry to hear it. I have had problems with my tiller and I have a post showing pictures how The blades fell off bolts loosened and blades were bent badly. My post shows the pictures and JTC. Never got back to me either. My next step would be to contact the customs department of the US because I think these are being shipped into United States and the JTC name it just a front. Not sure, but that's one way to find out and the more people that do it. Contact customs will stir the pot. Did you have any Other problems :) Van

My JCT did the same thing with the nuts backing off and I lost some of the blades and have not been able to find any. Has anyone been able to find blades or replacement ones that will fit.
Thanks

I was able to find a replacement motor for my JCT brush hog that fit into the original bracket (with 2 bolts instead of the original 4). I should have gotten it with a longer shaft, but the coupler just barely bridges the distance. I use the coupler instead of the lovejoy set up they originally had. I don't know if that will be a problem in the long run or not, but so far it is working. Right now I am just cutting grass and high weeds.

The coupler did slide off on me, so I put a bolt (not pictured) through the hole which only puts the coupler on the edge of the PTO type shaft on the gear box, but it puts the other end against the new motor wall so it does not slide anymore.

I needed new hoses as the JCT hoses did not match anything in the US or Europe (guess where it came from).

I bought both the motor and the coupler from www.surpluscenter.com for about $400 with shipping and tax, plus the new hoses from a local hose place. The parts I bought are item numbers 9-7078-160 and 1-2459. Surpluscenter sales support were very helpful. Ask them if the motor comes with a longer shaft version.
