Hello. I see a lot of lookers tonight, but not any members. But I'll ask anyway. I'm going to be working on the clutches on a bobcat 310. So I have to open the chain case. I'd like to be able to work from the side as well as from the front. It will be up on blocks or jack stands with the wheels off and the operators cage tipped back and supported with a floor stand...so no problem there. I would like to raise the lift arms also to give better access from the sides. Anyone ever do this and have advise on how to hold the arms up and safe? I don't have a hoist and I don't have any "lift arm stops" that some of the new large loaders come with. If I can't keep the arms up safely, I will just have to work from the front. Thanks. It will be good to hear from anyone on this restoration project.

I would find a piece of pipe or square tube that will fit over cylinder rod and cut 1 side out so it will fit on. Or if you have access to a welder 3 pieces of flat steel welded into a u shape to fit over the rod

If you had to I guess you could make two deadmen from at least 4x4 's with legs and arms to keep them from slipping, and be careful not to kick them out. lift arm cylinder blocks are much better as stated, I would use 1/4 inch thick channel if you can find it.

We are on the same track with this. I think I will have some stops made. I don't weld, and I'll see how much they will cost. Actually how much is it worth to not get pinched in two or get knocked in the head by a falling lift rod! Thanks

Great to hear from all of you. Well, I removed one clutch chain today (removed inside clutch chain on one side) before I got distracted to something else. But a problem...The outside clutch chain has a master link with a clip that I'm not familiar with. The clip is a solid oval clip. I've only seen clips that you slip over one pin and slide it onto the other pin until it snaps on. I don't know how this clip comes off. I've seen this type of clip on small bike chains and you just sort of bend the chain sideways and the clip pops off, but this large skidsteer chain has me stumped right now. I don't think I'm strong enough to bend the chain to snap off the clip. :>) Sorry, I don't yet know how to post pic on here. But I'll let you know how and when I get it off. PS: I think my biggest problem will be getting the chains back on!! nite all

I hate it when people post and then don't follow up. So to update. It is just my eyesight! :>) on the master link being different. I had to look real close to see that the end of the clip was indeed split and it pushed (hard) to come off just like regular master link clips. Only removed the clutch chains...not the final drive chain. Also removed the center clutch tension sprocket and bracket. Of course had to disconnect the steering arm brackets from each clutch. And a little hard getting those brackets bolted back onto the clutches...really close fit and clutches have to be completely "closed" up to have room. I found that if I packed the bolt/washer/spacer with heavy grease, they would not come apart if you drop them. I found out the hard way that if you drop them into the gearcase, they will be hard to find and get out. I have replaced the clutch discs and have the chains back on. Now just adjusting the steering arms and chain tension. Good to do this with the gearcase open so you can see what you're doing. Have to get new oil and gasket sealer when stores open up Monday. Sorry, but I have 2 threads going about this bobcat 310 clutch replacement. So I'll close this one out and post any updates on the other thread. Thanks for all the help here.
