I purchased a Bobcat 753 from a neighbor lady whose husband passed away a couple years ago. The unit had not been used for many years and sat outside. I have been able to make needed repairs (hoses, oil etc.) without needing a manual but I am sure I will need one at some point. The nearest dealer is 150 miles away. The serial number plate is missing from the unit. I have searched high and low for one which is supposed to be stamped in some location on the machine. The dealer says the only way they will help me is for me to haul the unit 150 miles one-way and they will find the serial number for me. 300 miles is a long way to drive if I do not have to. I would appreciate some suggestions as to the location of the serial number if possible. Thanks.

It may be stamped into the chain case, just above the front plug. You will need to lift the arms to see it, if its there.
If not, i believe the dealer can get it off the computer, but 300 mile round trip is a little steep...

A greater concern to me would be why the plate is missing. This could be a sign of a stolen unit.
Not always, it does seem a little odd, but it happens.
I wonder if you give the dealer the engine serial number, if its on file too.

Thanks to all for the replies...the thought of a stolen machine did come to my mind. My neighbor had the machine as far back as 1997 when he did some work for me. He got it from someone for a hunting lease payment. Had no luck finding the serial # on the chain case above the fill plug. This is a great forum. I have read some threads which could have made my life easier in refurbishing the unit. I have another question but will start another thread for others reference.

Horray! After a second look I found what I believe to be the serial number (512719643) stamped below the fill plug on the chain case. Thanks again...Great Forum!

Yes that number is the right format. If you're freindly with the local police I would have them run it to see if it's been reported missing. If you give the number to the dealer and it's stolen it can get very complicated very quickly especially if it crossed state lines.

No problem...I have a bill of sale from the neighbor lady. If it is stolen she can deal with it and give me my money back or pay the lawyer and my money.

Thanks! Now that I have the serial number I can get me some manuals. I know they are expensive from the dealer. Are the ones online (electronic or paper) worthy of purchasing?

Now that you have a serial number you may be able to purchase a manual off e bay. That is where I have found all of mine, as I can stand the fact that bobcat likes there stuff so much that they want to cut a portion of my finger off each time I go there. Thank you NAPPA for matching parts.
