I recently purchased a used S250 with 600 hours from a friend of mine. Unfortunately he is no longer with us, so I am left with a problem I have very little information on. What I know: The parking brake never worked for him, and I saw the machine once with the chain case open. My other friend and I are sure it was apart because of the parking brake actuator being missing. What I don't know: Did he check the chain case, and if he did, did he recover the part. I called bobcat today to order a new actuator, and the parts guy seemed to think it could fall into the chain case. Can this happen? Should I pull the whole chain case apart, and drain it to look for a part that could be floating around in there? I know it has another 100 or so hours on it since I saw it apart a year ago. Thanks for your help, Joe

The looking wedge could only fall in there if the bottom bolt broke. That next to never happen so unless he was really culmsy, it couldn't fall in there. He most likely just pulled the wedge out to drive the machine. If the solenoid was bad or another electrical problem, the machine should set a code. If it will not release and is not setting codes, one of two things. The park brake swithch on the dash is pushed or the machine is not reading engine rpm. The dead give away there is a rpm sensor problem is the the dash will count down for the glowplugs with the engine running.
