I typed out a larger message but noticed no paragraphs so I enabled the HTML editor but I can't enter anything on it. So summary of issue and I will post full text in response to this. S220 recently repaired, left display panel replaced along with fuel sensor and muffler for different reasons (black smoke issue and not reading correct diesel level). Once got machine back from shop ran it for around 10 minutes cleaning snow and the machine shut down completely. I started again after 10 minutes (didn't see any issue with machine) and it then shut down again maybe 20 minutes later. The code showing is 34-04. Having Bobcat come back likely tomorrow but worried it might not be duplicated so was hoping for any suggestions. More details below

Full text of my original post. As mentioned I can't get the HTML editor option to work so if anyone wants to read the full details otherwise also more search terms for someone to find this down the road: Having an issue with our S220. I was having a few issues with the machine and had to send it into the Bobcat dealer for service (was getting heavy black smoke after using it for the first time in months - turned out to be the muffler and also had an issue with the diesel level not showing correct even after the sensor being replaced - ended up replacing the left panel as well). Anyway, the issue now is that over the holidays used it a few times to clear snow and a few times the machine just shut down completely. I heard a "beep" and all the electrical and everything went off while I was driving. Just came to a dead stop. One time it was in 2 speed mode and then I just left it in one speed mode when I restarted and it seemed to work fine for another two hours or so until I was done clearing snow. The next day I started and let it idle on low to warm up and when I came back 10 minutes later it was off. Again, started it and ran for a while but then at one point I went to idle the engine (maybe after 30 minutes) and then when I restored it to full power it and moved a few feet it cut out again. The only code showing up is 34-04. I did manage to glance at the right screen quickly when it shut down and I noticed the bobcat logo displayed. I haven't started it since.

An update, the tech came from the dealership but couldn't duplicate the shutdown.... He said going to be hard to track down this type of issue.... He tried letting it idle, drove it around, bumped it around just to see if something would happen.... I guess will see what happens in the coming weeks... Not really sure what next step is going to be to fix it if it keeps happening.

Sadly he is right, a communication error code will be hard, could be as simple as a bad wire or connector, the issue is, there are a LOT of wires coming out of your control module. I was lead to believe the computers run a protocol like cars do, so you short a data line to ground, communication is lost and the computer goes WTF and shuts down.
You can try turning the machine in, brake engaged, cab up and grab parts of tha harness under the cab and jiggle it, see if you can replicate the fault. If it's a shorting wire to the frame, you may get lucky and find it doing this.

Thanks Tazza for the response. Some additional information, I haven't tracked down the exact issue yet but I am starting to see a pattern now. Wanted to post in case this helps someone down the road too.. Forecast was for cold/lot of snow last night so decided as a test to keep the bobcat inside (very tight fit in the shop!) over night. The machine started fine and it didn't cut out at all today. Two nights ago when clearing snow the machine stopped after 10 minutes and hit the "Start" button a few times before being able to enter in the password to start the machine (screen kept turning off). It stopped on its own after maybe another 10 minutes and again after maybe 5 minutes and then it ran fine for another 2 hours. So, I not sure if the warmth is helping with one of the control boards or panels or if the cold is contracting some contactor and causing the issue. Even though that left panel is brand new was wondering if maybe an issue with that panel. I tried doing the moving of the harness to see if I could get it to turn off the other week but it didn't (the tech tried the same thing). I am going to take the roof liner off after the next round of snow passes and check out the wires in the header as well. One time when I held the light button down it showed "REPLY" and on the main screen it shows "D->B" which I read on another site means the communication loss is on the Rx wire from the Deluxe Panel to the Bobcat Controller. I assume that new left panel would still be compatible with the original right panel (keypad) and that isn't what is causing the problem.

Hello all, This is an old post but I wanted to update for anyone that might be having similar issues and come across my thread in a search. So, I dealt with the issue for the rest of the winter last year as was so busy I didn't have time to do more investigation after the dealer could not figure out the problem. It would cut off randomly from time to time and a real pain in the butt. I haven't used the machine much over the summer but whenever I did it ran fine. A few weeks ago finally got a chance to take a closer look, I heard that sometimes mice get into the header of the bobcat (like if you have the extra insulation/sound proofing kit on these older machines taht did not come with them as default). I pulled out the christmas trees plastic plug things and sure enough I saw two mice go running out and a nest setup on the side of the cab light! I put some steel wool into the area around the wires coming up from the back of the machine to the top of the cab/controller. After cleaning out the nest/etc I took a closer look at the harness/wiring. The wiring to the light was frayed (i.e. chewed by mice). For now I have just wrapped the two wires with electric tape to see if that fixes the issue. I am waiting for a cold morning to run/test it. I tested again today but was 7 degrees celcius so don't think that is a good test. Curious if people think that this could have caused this issue even though just going to the light? The light is still working when push the button.

A further update on this, the issue has not been resolved yet. Stalled during last snow so I got a recommendation for a mobile tech from someone else local that has a bunch of Bobcats that is not the dealer. I am waiting for him to have time to come out and look, hopefully this week. What happened today was just warming up the machine and died out when I was inside building and machine was warming up (machine had not moved at all). When I checked code it was the same 34-04 code. Then later I was driving it and the machine stopped again (but less abrupt.. more like one second of the throttle being decreased and no beeps). Started again, no code this time and then machine ran for a good hour. I stopped to move something and I had the machine door open and came back 5 minutes later and turned off again (head lights turned off too) but I started it and it operated for another 1 hour no issues). I will post an update once (hopefully) get it resolved...

I am having the same issue. Have you been able to find a solution?
Thanks,
Hi, sorry, I hadn't seen this earlier. So, after being frustrated I was googling around and finally found a youtube video from this company called ISOCELL that fixes control boards. They did a demo video that looked similar to the problem I was having so I contacted them and sent them a video plus my model number/serial number and they said likely it was the controller itself (the one where you enter the password). They had a reasonable fee to repair it so I figured at this point was worth sending in (I am outside of USA so cost me more on shipping there and back and also had to deal with customs) but I have now used the machine a few times this season and no problem (knock on wood). It is a huge relief. They company was great to deal with. They also fix some model of the computer itself too.

My suggestion would be to really look around the machine, try to shake the wires, take out the control panels, looks really closely at the connections to the back, remove the connection make sure they aren't corroded or damaged, but at some point might be worth sending the controllers themselves in.
It is very odd for me because we had changed the left controller already (even though in the end turned out wasn't an problem) so I think that maybe during that replacement something got shorted somehow and created issues with the right controller.
