S185 starting problem

I have a 2006 S185 that sometimes starts fine and other times the starter will kick on and off as though you are turning the key to the start position over and over. It does this with the key held in the start position and the starter only engages for a split second . It will then l continue to cycle the same way as long as you hold the key to start. Any ideas?

I'd start by cleaning the battery connections at both ends. It really sounds like a bad ground connection. If that doesn't help try jumping the small terminal to big one on the starter and see if the starter works. If that helps then the problem is in the start circuit from the switch or the switch itself.
