I have s185 2009 having starting problem, the fuel likes to return to tank and when I bleed air out at injection pump it will start not easily, changed pickup pump, primer ball, fuel lines, check valve on return hose, fuel filter to much money wasted. what really gets me is after I get it to run I turn off after a 1/2 hr and I cant get it to start back up and there is no air in lines? Problem also started over short time period of a week, fuel tank was filled no change. im wanting to pull injectors to see if one is stuck open but it runs so good when running no fuel smells?

How cold is it maybe glow plugs or bad connection
It could be a fuel line issue.
Can you try loosening the bleed screw and pump the hand primer till it feels firm and bubble free, close the bleed screw. Now, get a helper to squeeze the bulb while cranking, this will increase the fuel pressure. See fi it is a lift pump issue or not.

ensure that little stuipid scew at inj pump got closed after bleed. DONT OVERTIGHTEN IT WILL BREAK. I call the thumb wheel.. for reasons beyond my understaning some will or will not run if this left in the open position. but some will. would love an explation of why this is but real world . if thumb screw is left open some units will be hard to start or wontt run at all.? old M should chime in here. there has to be reason? but those be the facts.

It would have to be due to fuel pressure. If the tap off lines are small enough there may be enough back pressure to keep the injector pump happy.
I had a 743 that would start with the bleed screw open, but it would not keep running and simply conk out.
