Retreading, regrooving, or replacing tires

Anybody have any opinions on this? Experience? I'm just starting my research on retreading, and it sounds like a pretty common practice, especially in the trucking industry. Regrooving seems to be frowned upon in that industry, but I haven't found any information on the construction side of things. The guy I called tonight said he mainly deals with trucks, but has done large construction tires as well. Both sound like cost effective solutions than just simply replacing the tires.
