Repower a 743

Has anyone replaced or repowered the v1702 engine in a Melroe bobcat 743 with a different/ better engine ?
If so what snags did you have or was there an engine that just slotted straight in with no hassles whatsoever ?

A Google search on the phrase "bobcat 743 repower" will yield numerous results.

I have read it can be done using a 2203 kubota but it is really to much engine , the 1903 is the prefered engine if more power is wanted or gotten at the right price.

I know this thread is dated, but a I install a V2203DI in my 743 back in 2016 and it's been running perfectly ever since!
I've worked it hard, for all these years.
It not too much power in my experience, I did put a new drive coupling in it when I installed thee engine as that is the one part that is known to fail!
