I own an 873C and as I was turning to the left I heard a thunk noise. I jacked up the rear and i measured 3/32 play on the right wheel and 5/32 on the left wheel. Prior to this noise i noticed the left and then the right axle seals leaking. Iguess that was a hint. The play in the axles is in and out not up or down. The local Bobcat dealer quoted me 2500 to replace the bearings and seals. I can't remember if it was for just the rear or all four. Does that sound right? Is this a job that a decent home mechanic can do? I also replaced the head gasket on this loader due to leakage 8 years ago, and it is still going strong. Do the 4 main pump flex hoses need to be removed? I have some access to the rear chain case cover. It should come off easily. I have the manual for it. It makes the job sound doable. Thank you, Rich M-37

This is a job you can do with a little know how. If you can get the rear inspection cover off you shouuld be good to go. Removing a hose or two isn't a big deal either.
You will need a helper, the axles are heavy! you will need someone to assist in installing them. New bearings will run you a bit, seals are cheap. You will get it done for a lot less than $2,500

Tazza, Thankyou, I feel like this job should not be to difficult, The service people at my local dealer have been helpful with questions I have asked as well. Rich M-37
