I have a question about hydraulic pump mounting on the flywheel side of the engine. I finally broke down and repowered my M444. I found a sweet deal on an 18HP Vanguard engine locally and after some rigging, the new engine is installed. All I have left to do is attach the hydraulic pump on the flywheel side of the engine. The old Onan had some sort of coupling setup bolted to a pulley and then to a flywheel. This coupling type attachment consists of 4 bolts into rubber mounted bushings that just spin in circles. The whole assembly is somewhat flexible too. Looking at it I'm amazed the 3/8 bolts haven't snapped over the years. Anyway, my question is, can I just omit this little flexible coupling and rig the pump directly to my stub shaft? Will all of the vibration from the engine damage my hydraulic pump?
