I use a welded hook on a back hoe bucket to move stuff all the time and I am not sure if it is a good idea to weld a hook to the main boom on a skid steer or not. I don't think that putting one on the bucket is a good idea as you might not be useing the same one all the time. Is there a standard mounting position for a hook or shackel. I hope this question is not to vague as I am trying to think of the widest range of use. Thanks, JEFF

hit post before I corrected spelling....
I have a hook welded to my bucket too, comes in really handy!
I'd avoid welding to the lift arms as it would put load on one side. On the bucket has the advantage if curl, this helps adjust height as well as your lift function, but thats just me. I also use my 4 in 1, if i need extra height i open the bucket and get about another metre of lift or reach.

I saw somewhere?, a guy welded a standard receiver hitch inside and top of a bucket, looked like it would work ok.

I think b4 I welded a hook right to the boom I'd get a extra QA plate and weld a hook and receiver hitch to it. Or just buy a few extra hooks and weld them to all your common attachments, they don't cost much.
The 773 s175/185 have tiedown hook locations on each side of the boom that a 3/8 grab hook will fit in.
I need to do this to my buckets again, had it done on my old loader but never seem to get around to the newer one.

The few times I've used the hooks welded to one of my buckets they have been life savers. Be sure to use a rod like 7018 when you weld them on. BTW: I punched holes in the ends of my fork tines and made short chains w/ pins welded on one end to go through the holes; chain hooks on the other end. Once the pin is through the hole in the tine, snap a snap link through it and lift away.
