Replaced all belts and had injector pump rebuilt. Valves never sounded exactly right after doing this work. After about 25 to 30 hours of running time , engine locked up. Engine can be manually turned one way but not the other. Can head be removed from engine without removing engine from machine? Tool to remove engine cost $1200.

I have removed a pug engine from one of those machines without the jig. If you remove the fly wheel and the bolts in the bell housing, pull the engine up and out.
You can actually build a jog to pull the engine and pump as one unit, there are plans in the manual. Look up my profile and send me an email, i'll see what i can do to send you a copy if you'd like.

yes head can be removed without pulling eng. eng can be removed without stupid tooasfor the change over to a kubatol pull package with eng hoist. youre probally going to find cam snapped in half. remove valve cover and inpect. and by the way. even though you are already upside down in $ out the door. cut youre losses now . or cut a hole in the roof and place all spare change in it. the pukeO is not a good investment for repair.

Parts for this engine are expensive, but some of the parts can be bought from ebay.co.uk the pug engine was/is very popular in the UK
They are expensive to repair, but when they are running, they are so very smooth and quieter than a Kubota.

Yes. The head can be removed, without pulling the engine. I also pulled out without engine without any accessories. Just attach a wire rope on engine, pull suitable steel tube in it and two people are enough to lift up slightly and then move it out away from the machine. If you found the problem,I live in Bulgaria / small country in Europe / here these engines are quite popular. There are quite dismantled engines second hand stores. 2 years ago I bought a camshaft for less than $ 150. I can find you a good used parts at very good prices ... just do not know how is the situation with the delivery .... I think it's quite expensive.
