I have steel tracks on my 742B and it moves fine. It has the Mitsubishi 4G32 engine which I think is the same engine as the 642B. However I'm not sure if the pump and drive motors are the same or not.
When you put tracks on your 642 did you have any trouble getting tracks in between the frame and the tires with the existing tire size did you have to do anything like spacers on the axles or that?

I did have issues. I would have needed spacers but in my case I had reversible rims. In other words, the rim offset, and the fact that the rims could be bolted on either side, allowed me to just reverse the rims to give the tracks room.

This, of course, also made the machine wider which needs to be taken into consideration for attachments that you want to cover the entire width of the machine. Such as buckets, angled plow blades, dozer blades etc.
