Only starts when lifting bucket 743

1350 hours, kubota v1702
Motor wants to start only while engaging the bucket up.
When I release it dies. It wont stay running when starting normally.
New rings, fuel system good.
Seems to me the pressure on the motor without any engagent is lugging the motor.
Any ideas where to go.

i checked that and no it doesn't seem to make any difference with the position of the stick on the right

I pulled the motor out and it starts and runs when i put back in it wont run ?
did this 2 times
All the controls work when using starter. I have up on jacks and nothing moves when trying to start.
Any ideas?

Kind of a long shot, but are all your engine grounds good?

diesel engine, i wouldnt think it mattered. Its old, all mechanical.

Would like to bypass everything to seperate the external controls .

I would say most likely your hydros are loading the engine, it could be either system lifting or driving , check your valves and could you have reversed some lines that the pressure is bucking itself?

Had a older model car come into the shop once. Stated the headlights only work in PARK. Found out the floor shifter was contacting the floor and grounding out the body . Ended up being a bad body ground.
Starter and fuel cut solenoid are both electric. If you supplied alternative power and ground outside chassis to start, you bypassed the electrical system. You wanted to bypass everything. Sounds like you did.
I said its a long shot, but if your asking for ideas its worth a look.

This is old model no electronics whatsoever
The alternator was still hooked up while motor was out
And bieng diesel there's no ignition etc
I wish it was an electrical problem

Sorry to disagree with you but it IS an electrical problem! Now with the engine installed, have you tried starting it with a completely separate voltage system? Separate battery & all wiring to activate the solenoid with a separate switch?

No electrical solenoid whatsoever that operates the motor.
Is all mechanical.the fuel pump the lift pump are all mechanical.
It's a mechanical slide that engages and disengages the fuel pump

The only solenoids on this are the starter and the glow plugs..
I jump the starter and the glow plugs with motor in or out

I would disconnect the four bolts that mount the engine pull back far enough to remove the yolk from pump and start.
Everything is still connected.
Same wiring same grounds.
I do hear a noise somewhere that kind of growls like a pump nose when it shuts down
Won't stay again.
I'm pretty good when it comes to electrical I'm a low voltage control engineer.
I could still be wrong but to me there isn't any electronic issue.
The latest models have a solenoid on the pump but not this one
I'll attach pics when I get back

When the engine is out see if the pump even turns, somehow the pump seems to be locked up, I would crack the lines and see if there is some sort of air lock

how much torque would it need to turn?
i tried twisting by hand when motor was out but no good
should it spin fairly easily or not?

I do not know how much torque would be required to spin a good pump, but it will not spin freely unless it is bad. With the valves in the closed positions. With them open it will still take some force to turn it just a little less I believe.

it seems to me it spins over ok with starter but is locking up around idle rpm or just below
idk
